Abstract: Stumpers are a special kind of riddle, related to, but different from, so-called "insight problems". Upon hearing one, typically no answer comes to mind.  Understanding this phenomenon calls upon psychology.  Potentially, some of this psychology might be new.  The speaker has collected, and invented, many such stumpers, and will discuss (with experimental data) their relationship to Grice, Rosch, Johnson-Laird, and more.
